The Cetina river bridge

Serving as one of the more recent impressive examples of engineering and architecture in Croatia, the newly constructed Cetina river bridge towers over the city of Omiš.

Standing 70 metres high and stretching 216 metres in length, the bridge connects the two sides of the canyon, with the Komorjak and Omiš tunnels at either end. It sits directly above the river's mouth, overlooking the point where the Cetina empties into the Adriatic Sea. The Cetina river bridge is a true feat of engineering and an obvious—though perhaps expensive—solution to a problem that needed to be addressed. It was built with a practical purpose: to divert some of the extremely heavy traffic that usually causes headaches for anyone driving along the coast during the summer months.

Nevertheless, the bridge undeniably serves an aesthetic purpose as well, with the entire structure adding a striking visual element to the appearance and shape of Omiš. It resembles a thin thread holding the mountain together—a portal leading into the countryside and wilderness of Dalmatia.
