Villages by the river

Besides contributing to the pastoral beauty of the Dalmatian wilderness, the winding Cetina gives life to the region in more ways than one can imagine. Its vibrant green forests provide a home for birds, insects, fish and other animals, while the land around the river has historically been fertile and well suited to agriculture.

It is therefore no coincidence that this territory has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Besides the towns of Trilj, Sinj and Vrlika, the Cetina region is home to many smaller villages that are also worth a visit. Following the river downstream, you will encounter charming places such as Podašpilje, Svinišće, Kučiće, Kostanje, Slime and Blato na Cetini, among many others. Many of these villages flourished thanks to the fertile land beneath them, which allowed farming and shepherding to prosper and communities and local culture to grow.

The villages are wonderful places to visit if you want to experience quiet everyday life, discover local customs and traditions, taste local cuisine or simply stop during a hike to rest and recover. The rustic beauty of these small communities will take you back to a simpler time and remind you not to take the present moment for granted.
