The Vrdovo plateau is situated between two mountains: Dinara and Kamešnica. This elevated area provides a great view of the wild Dalmatian countryside. Vrdovo is located near several villages, making it easily accessible and a great starting point for any hiking adventure. Keep in mind, however, that there is almost no shade throughout the climb, so it is advisable to visit during the cooler months or be prepared to face the scorching sun.

The Sveti Jakov mountain hut is located on the plateau, where you can rest, catch your breath and have something to eat and drink before beginning your mountain tour. The surrounding landscape is defined by barren karst fields, sinkholes and generally dry conditions.

As you climb higher, the view becomes increasingly impressive. By the time you reach Mali Maglaj peak near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, you are standing at 1,455 metres above sea level. From here you can see the nearby mountains of Kamešnica, Biokovo, Mosor and Svilaja, as well as some of the nearby islands. Finally, remember to look back at the plateau where you began and appreciate your newfound perspective.
